First Generation (1986-’95)

The 1st generation Mercedes Benz E was appreciated for its superb grouping of safety and performance. For the first time, it was introduced with a turbo diesel (300D), and an inline-6 (300E). The choice of body styles included wagon, coupe, and sedan versions.

First Generation

The 300E version was furnished with all amenities, and a decent engine to deliver satisfactory performance, and this midsize sedan took 8 seconds to reach 60 mph with maximum speed of 140 mph.

Mercedes Benz E 500E Limited-Edition

Hardcore fans of the Mercedes Benz E were interested to buy the limited-version 500E sedan that was equipped with a Porsche-designed V8 engine for 322 hp and was provided during 1992-’94.

It was famous for its long lifespan; although, it was affordable than other cars in its class, it was very expensive in case of service, and repairs.

Second Generation (1996-2002)

Second Generation

The 2nd Generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class was produced in 1996 and sustained up to 2002. From this car, the signature cue of marquee was introduced along with the 4 ellipsoid headlights.

Even though the second generation vehicle basically same as first generation car, its body was slightly larger than that. It was offered with many engine variants. They were

• the E300D diesel for 134 hp,
• the E420 V8 to deliver 275 hp, and
• An inline six-cylinder engine that made 217 hp.

In 1998, the diesel engine version was gained a turbo motor for the development of more power about 174 hp. It was offered as an all-wheel drive along with a gasoline inline-6-engine and later it was substituted by a V6 engine that could deliver 221 hp.

With the help of a bit larger 4.3-liter V8 engine, the E420 and the E430 variants were slightly larger than other versions. In the subsequent year, the engine was replaced by a hot-rod E55 AMG V8 engine that could produce 349-hp.

During 1999, aide curtain airbags were added, whereas a revised front end and cabin were included for 2000. In the same year, more traditional equipment was included. For the next two years, no major changes were happened.

Third Generation (2003-2009)

The 3rd generation Mercedes-Benz E was developed in 2003 and produced up to 2009. The starting lineup comprised of the E320 wagon and sedan that were designed with a gasoline V6 engine for 221 hp and the E500 sedan with V8 engine for 302-hp. Even this generation was introduced in 2003, for that year it was appeared in previous generation itself. After that year, the E55 AMG sedan produced with a supercharged V8 engine for 469-hp. Tue full time third generation model was produced in 2004 known as new generation wagon that could be evolved in E500 and E320 versions. From this model, the Mercedes started to offer the choice of 4Matic all-wheel drive for wagon and sedan versions. On the E500 wagon, a 4Matic system was mounted as a standard item and that item was stopped its production in 2006.

For the 2007 model, the Mercedes included an E55 AMG wagon to the series and the AMGs were relabeled as E63 with the inclusion of V8 supercharger engine.

Fourth Generation (2010-Present)

The present generation is the fourth generation of Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which is available in three versions -

• the pavement-scorching E63 AMG,
• the V8-powered E550 that churns out 382 hp, and
• The gasoline V6-powered E350, which has a throughput of 268 horsepower

All these levels possess a 6.3-liter V8 engine that delivers 518-hp. All trim levels come with a wagon model; all have standard rear-wheel drive, whereas the 4Matic has all-wheel-drive system is also available on the E550 and E350 sedans. All the current generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class models are packed with a 7-speed automatic transmission.
